Veo3 by Sonatest is the third generation of the Phased Array instruments line. The most improvement of this instrument is that uses 3 complementary inspection techniques simultaneously. Techniques used by Veo 3 are PAUT (Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing), TFM (Total Focusing Method) and TOFD (Time of Flight Diffraction). These advanced technologies allow real-time capabilities to this portable instrument.
The Veo3 has all the flexibility necessary to help you solve challenging applications. Its unique architecture can generate up to six live TFM scans, produced from multiple FMC sources on different probes. This allows the end-users to focus where it matters, solving the most difficult inspections.
All of the data received during Full Matrix Capture (FMC) scanning can be recorded on the Veo3. As a result, further detailed analysis can be performed including comparison with previous inspection data to identify trends and flaw/corrosion growth rates. The Sonatest UTStudio software package has extensive capabilities to assist the inspector/expert or alternatively the data can be exported for analysis using other algorithms. Again, Sonatest provides the tools necessary beyond just the basic inspection.
The Veo3 phased array flaw detector takes the advantages of the earlier Sonatest units that you have come to know and added some significant new features. Fitted with a state-of-the-art PCAP touch panel, the now legendary user interface is even better. But what makes Veo3 really stand out, is its unique real-time multi-scan/multi-technique capabilities. Simultaneous TFM, PA and TOFD views are now possible.
Features:
Superior Digital Technology
The Veo3 offers superior data throughput and unsurpassed computational capacity. It delivers fast and accurate results using an impressive 32 channel PA beamformer that provides exceptional SNR, using enhanced digital signal processing. Data file size is not a concern for the Veo3 thanks to its 64-bit Linux operating system because it can count on a fast 128GB SSD memory capacity allowing you to record huge amounts of information in a single acquisition file. With its advanced technology the Veo3 is unique in allowing real-time multi-scan/multi-technique capabilities. Simultaneous TFM, PA and TOFD views are now possible.
Intuitive Menus & Workflow
The intuitive menu system is application and workflow driven, with set up and operation swiftly becoming second nature. Integrated help and wizards guide the user through scan set up whilst optimization tips ensure the Veo3 always performs at the highest level. Fast and efficient wizards for sound velocity; wedge delay, TCG, DAC, TOFD setup and encoder calibration are all provided as standard. The inspection plan shows the operator in 3D where probes are positioned on the test part, simplifying the inspection set up and providing an inspection reference for reporting. Using the latest computer technology, data can be permanently recorded for processing and report generation. All adjustments to focal laws are instantaneous, with angle resolution to 0.1° and up to 1024 focal laws without loss of performance.
FMC / TFM
With its unique architecture the Veo3 can generate up to six live TFM scans, produced from multiple FMC sources on different probes, and also generates TFM images of up to 500k pixels with a maximum resolution of 100 pixel per mm without limiting the number of pixel per axis. All of the data received during Full Matrix Capture (FMC) scanning can be recorded on the Veo3. As a result, further detailed analysis can be performed including comparison with previous inspection data to identify trends and flaw/corrosion growth rates. The Veo3 can combine up to 4 live TFM modes. As known as TFMi, the details of the defects have never been so close to the reality. That imaging scan provides a high-precision height assessment and an improved shape accuracy compared to conventional PA inspections. Prisma UT offers damping control to either optimize near surface resolution or energy transmission. The ability to capture screens is standard, combined with automatic reporting capabilities enable reports to be formatted with relative customer information such as logos etc. The most popular flaw sizing techniques such as DAC, AVG/DGS, TGC and AWS are all on-board. Thanks to the on-board B and C-Scan imaging capabilities, the Prisma UT enables field technicians to conduct corrosion and composite inspections, together with comprehensive on-site thickness profiling.
Prisma TOFD
The Prisma TOFD brings to the market a truly portable and powerful TOFD unit. The Prisma offers the best digitizing frequency going up to 200MHz, meaning that high frequency transducers can be used, ensuring the most accurate flaw height sizing possible. With 2 UT channels, the Prisma permits the inspection of thick components in a single pass. This is enhanced by the high voltage square wave pulsers delivering up to 450V, cutting the need for an external pre-amplifier. Prisma TOFD offers the complete hardware configuration to deliver the best performance, but it would be incomplete without the on-board software features such as hyperbolic cursors, lateral wave straightening and lateral wave removal.
Prisma PA
Ultrasonic Phased Array technology has become the established method for advanced NDT testing applications. Phased Array Techniques allow the user to cover a wider volume of inspection; such as being able to cover the complete span of a weld without the need to move or reposition the transducer. This is possible due to phased array enabling beams to be electronically steered. This technique results in comprehensive imaging of the results showing a quasi cross section of the inspected part. With the Prisma PA you can switch easily and quickly between the UT and PA operating modes with a simple press of a button, no data or time is lost. The Inspection Plan shows the operator in 2D and 3D where probes are positioned on the test part, simplifying the inspection set up and providing an inspection reference for reporting. All adjustments to focal laws are instantaneous. Multiple sectorial scans, true top, side and end view extractions, together with C-Scans, are all supported.

For over 20 years the Sitescan name has meant highly reliable, technician focussed flaw detectors and the new range continues this tradition. From the 123W entry level model to the high specification 250S - ease of use, rugged construction and high quality amplifiers are key elements of the design. Typical applications are weld inspection, corrosion testing, small castings/forgings and lamination checking.
Advanced Defect Sizing Tools as Standard
Weld and pipe inspection are major applications for the Sitescan series and we have therefore equipped them with the latest software tools for defect sizing. The 123W has DAC, while the 150S and 250S have DAC, AVG, AWS and API sizing techniques. The use of integrated sizing software reduces analysis time and hence speeds inspection.
Multiple standard sizing techniques are essential for service companies working to different customer standards, especially as service work becomes more international and operators are required to work to different codes.
High Visibility Display
For any flaw detector the display is a crucial element. The Sitescan has a colour transflective TFT display as standard, providing high visibility at any light level. The choice of colours for menus and waveform display enhance clarity, with the LCD simulation mode giving direct sunlight readability. The TFT does not suffer the typical black out problems or temperature limitations of LCD giving full weather capability. The new Full Screen mode maximizes the A-scan area to improve readability further whilst testing and its fast response and peak capture functionality ensure any indication is clearly displayed, even if it only appears for one cycle of the PRF.
High Performance with Total Control
The Sitescan delivers high performance and advanced features, yet our engineer's experience in user interface design has ensured it is easy and quick to use. The acknowledged ease of use of previous generation Sitescans has been enhanced with the menu navigation key, providing easy access to functions. The menu structure has been designed to guide the user through their task with operation quickly becoming second nature.
Robust and Reliable
Sonatest's reputation for robust design and proven reliability is an important aspect of flaw detector ownership. Down time is expensive and should be minimized to ensure maximum productivity. The Sitescan series is constructed to high standards using Xenoy plastics and sealed to IP67, giving excellent water resistance so it can withstand the tough environments in which operators work.
Models in The Range
Based on the 123W the 150S has the same broadband amplifier enhanced with all the software features required to improve operator efficiency and accuracy. These includes standard sizing tools, advanced measurement modes, full screen waveform display, thickness reading memory and an automatic calibration feature.
Features:
- Colour Reference Feature
- An A-scan from a known defect free component can be stored and recalled in a different colour to the live A-scan. This effectively means that defects are highlighted in a different colour to the natural reflectors, enabling quicker and more reliable defect detection.
- Flexible Measurement
- Two independent bar monitor gates offer a range of measurement options for signal height or distance using either flank or peak triggering. The echo-to-echo mode gives through paint thickness readings while the G1-G2 mode allows accurate gate positioning for signals which are extremely close together.
- The TRIG function gives surface distance and depth when using angle beam transducers.
- Curve Surface Correction
- When using angle beam transducers on a curved surface the Sitescan will calculate the surface distance and depth of defect, taking into account the internal or external radius.
- Flaw Sizing
- Automatic flaw sizing using DGS/AVG, AWS D1.1, API 5UE, speeds reporting of defect acceptance or rejection.
- Help Facility
- Full instructions for all functions are clearly displayed. A very useful function for multi-disciplined technicians who use a variety of NDT techniques and do not use the Sitescan on a day-to-day basis.
- Full Screen A-scan
- In full screen mode the A-scan fills the display improving visibility.
- Fast Set Up Screen
- The split screen mode enables fast set up and overview of basic parameters.
